Battle of the Blue Fortresses

January 11th, 2008 | Posted by ecs in General Information - (6 Comments)

Hi there, it’s me again, and I’m going to talk about Blue Fortresses. What’s a blue fortress you ask? It’s an alliance set-up deck based on allies like Medoc Spiritwarden, King Magni Bronzebeard, and so forth. Remember that Graccus deck I wrote about? That’s a fortress, and it’s blue.

This is an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the different blue fortresses—Paladin, Priest, Warlock, and Mage. Sorry, we’re not going to dwell on Horde control decks, like Nathadan or Pagatha. It’s easier to compare these decks because their ally-based is just the same. The only difference is the spells used.

The Definition of Control

January 9th, 2008 | Posted by aventhunderer in Deckbuilding - (17 Comments)

Control: A word which describe the power to dominate and hold a field, domain or the board (in TCG)

Every TCG player’s goal is to have the board on his advantage. Whether by having more cards in play or by wiping out the opposing presence. Control decks are good at this.

In the World of War craft TCG each class has their way of having “control” of the board.

We all know that fortress decks (especially Paladin fortress) are one of the best control decks out there.

But that’s how good guys control the board. I want the word control to be nasty… cruel… IMBA!!!

You want it to be that way too? Well’ let’s talk about being bad…

Ever since Wow TCG begins the Warlock class is one (1) of the top decks to beat, its deck variations ranges from rush, beats to control fortress and all of them are competitive.

On this article I introduce a new type of a Warlock control deck, all its strength to be revealed.

There’s this little guy that’s been gaining a bit of attention lately in our team ever since JDJ thought of putting him on ECS’s Victoria Jaton for the 10k. Now that a lot of people are a bit aware of what he can do thanks to that event and Jeremy Blair’s article on Victoria, it’s time to go full throttle and explore what this Alliance 1/2-ally-that-isn’t-Korthas can do.

The biggest event of the year has just come and gone. It was one of the toughest competition to date for the 52 denizens of Azeroth that dared to battle it out for a piece of the 10k. Deck archetypes were present in every form and shape during this event–Gorebelly Twig, Omedus Rush, Graccus Control, Nathadan Control, Blue Shaman, Blastershot Hunters. But out of the multitude of decks that were represented, there were a few that came out of the Unknown.

Today we’ll feature a deck that deserves a spot in most WoWTCG blogs. The Vittoria Jaton Aggro deck piloted by none other by teammate and WoWTCG National Champion Edward Cheson Sy.

Featured Match: Joseph Davidson Choi (Phadalus the Enlightened) versus Jerome Tan (Daspien Bladedancer)

After the dusts of Constructed and Draft formats have settled, eight players emerged at the top of the food chain. There and then, the battle for supremacy began.

August Regionals Champion JD Choi and Draft Qualifier (November 5) Jerome Tan battles it on Table 1. Both players command dominant decks in the format today. Blue Shaman decks have been on the spotlight since the game’s second expansion. This deck houses a complete set of competitive allies, like Korthas Greybeard, Jeleane Nightbreeze and Parvink, and decent ability cards like Chain Lightning and Earth Elemental Totem. The Solo Rogue, on the other hand, has risen to the top fairly recently – thanks to the Fires of the Outland cards like Surprise Attacks and Jackknife.

Today, I’m going to talk about my drafting experience in the Philippine Nationals. I’m going to show the deck I used, which went 3-0 in draft. I’ll be focusing more on the card choices. I don’t exactly what happened in my matches except a few highlights, but I still be giving inputs on how the deck worked.

First, here’s the decklist.
